Biography Microtonal Guitar

print this page

With the purpose of incorporating to the execution guitarist a series of unpublished technical resources, Roberto de Vittorio created the Microtonal Guitar.

This instrument consists of 20 strings prepared in 10 couples; the strings that you/they compose each couple a are tuned it distances to each other of 1/4 of tone and among each couple hay 1/2 tones, quarter and a third.

CHARACTERISTIC OF THE MICROTONAL GUITAR

10 double strings, forming a total of 20 strings.
Between rope and rope of each couple is a distance of 1/4 of tone. Putting the front guitar, the rope of each couple's right is the one that is tuned 1/4 of tone more .
Long of shot (of the capo to the bridge), 66 cms.
Long of the mast 56 cms.
The mast takes 8 frets, therefore only 8 pigeonholes that occupy 24cms of mast; the rest (32 cms.) it doesn't take frets.
In the cover of the box of resonance there are 2 mouths that are placed to the sides of the mast.
The width of the mango is in relation to the 10 couples of strings and the head has a mechanical peg of 20 pegs willing of 10 of each side of the head.
The strings are of smaller width that those of the traditional guitar, therefore have less tension; this allows bigger malleability and adaptation.
The one strung happens for on the bridge and this gets tied up in a metallic tailpiece.
The format and the measures of the box of resonance of this instrument are adjusted to the traditional guitar.
Extension of the instrument: From the C 2 until the C 5 (1/4 ascended tone) in tempered scale; starting from this last note that corresponds to the stall 8, the mast doesn't have but pigeonholes, being a long of the usable mast without frets of 32 cms, being able to arrive until the C 7 (1/4 of ascended tone).
The writing of he/she carries out in 2 staffs with the keys of G in 2ª and F in 4ª.

An arrow placed on a note, indicates that the same one this ascended 1/4 of tone.

All these characteristics of this new instrument, provide us a series of sound effects and very own expressive resources, but we can intrude in the microtonalism being worth us of a guitar of 12 strings, tuning these strings for even at distance of 1/4 of tone between rope and rope of each couple, to likeness of The Microtonal Guitar
