Born in Buenos Aires (Argentina), began
her piano studies with her mother, she followed them under the tuition
of professor Rodolfo Caracciolo and graduated at the National Conservatory
of Music of Buenos Aires with the degree of Senior Teacher in Music
(Piano). She also got the same degree as Senior Teacher in Music
(Harpsichord)
Her interest in research work of the
Renaissance and Baroque Periods made her travel to Madrid where
she took courses at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid under
professor GENOVEVA GALVEZ She has been distinguished with several
scholarships to follow specialized courses given (among others)
by MAGDA TALGLIAFERRO, HELMUTH ROLOFF and RAFAEL DE SILVA.
She also attended master classes by
SERVIO LORENZI, NIKITA MAGALOFF and by the well known harpsichord
teachers LORY WALLFISCH, ROSALYN TURECK and KENNETH GILBERT
At the Musicology Institute of Buenos
Aires she studied with professor CARLOS VEGA. She has attended courses,
seminars and conferences on Musical Education, sponsored by the
American States Organization (O.E.A.), the Ministry of Culture and
Education of the Arg. Rep., the Argentine Society of Musical Education,
the Ministry of Education of the province of Buenos Aires, Negro
and Marfil organization, Ricordi Am. and The National Conservatory
of Music.
MERCEDES POMILIO has an inquisitive
independent mind. She does not claim to belong to any particular
school, but she has developed a ski¡¡ to select from everyone those
features which suit better to her personality and to the main target:
Music.
Her repertory covers a wide scope from
the Virginalists up the most contemporary advanced expressions.
It is because of this versatility to cover such a wide range of
music that several composers have dedicated to her some of their
works which she has played on first performance in Argentina and
in Europe
She has offered a great number of piano
and harpsichord concerts. She also played as a soloist with different
orchestras, sponsored by the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Teatro
Argentino La Plata, Teatro Nacional Cervantes, Secretary of Cultura
of the Arg.Rep., San Martín Cultural Center, Buenos Aires Cultural
Center, Sao Paulo Town Hall, "Cecilia Meirelles" (Río
de Janeiro), Fundación March, Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid),
etc. She was awarded a prize-bestowed by the Hungarian Popular Republic
on occasion of the celebration of Liszt Year for her efforts to
make this author widely known in her country. She performed several
of Liszt's works the first time in South America, in the Teatro
Colón
She attended the V Meeting of Contemporary
Music in Granada (Spain) and the International Festival 'Encuentros"
(Buenos Aires, Argentina). She was designate Invited Member of CAMU-UNESCO
She has also recorded in CD a varied number of works of contemporary
authors.
MERCEDES POMILIO devotes her time both
to her work as an artist and to teaching. She teaches Piano and
Harpsichord at the Conservatorio Nacional Superior de Música de
Buenos Aires (Instituto Universitario Nacional de las Artes)
