HACHA (Axe)
4.3 Mb - PROGRAMME NOTES

We strike.
If the spirit has no mercy
The axe brakes.
Brown the sweat and the wood.
Brown the blood and the river.

"Tierra viva" (Living Land) has two movements, which can be played separately as two autonomous works.
The main theme of the first movement, "Grito de Cielo y piedra" (Cry of Sky and Stone) is a Baguala, an indigenous genre of song from the North-West of Argentina.
The second one, "Hacha" (Axe), is a Malambo, a creole rhythm from the Argentine Pampas.
All samples (with the sole exception of the composer's voice) were taken from the piano.
In the present recording the piano was played by the composer.
Composer shall kindly send the performance material by request.

"Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to he tempted by the devil." (Matthew, 4,1)
All spiritual journeys need preparation. St. John of the Cross calls it "the dark night" (la noche oscura).
Not even Christ avoided it; in fact: the more important is the mission, the more rigorous must be the preparation. lt is not accidental than this episode of the "temptations" comes just after Jesus' baptism and before the beginning of His preaching.
From the "burning bush" on, the fire has been a symbol of Divinity. The???fire of love? for St. John of the Cross, is the Holy Spirit, active manifestation of the Divine.
This process is not exclusive of Christianity; it happens necessarily in any kind of spiritual work.
