Mauricio Kagel
was born in 1931 in Buenos Aires; there he studied in private form
- piano, violoncello, organ, song, address and theory. The same
as Giuseppe Verdi, didn't approve its entrance exam to the Conservatory.
In the University it studied the careers of History of the literature
and Philosophy. Very early he/she began to work in the Grouping
New Music, in Buenos Aires. "To listen contemporary music, to interpret
it, to organize and to administer, all this was habitual already
before coming to Europe."

Their
works in films and musical for the Cinemateca Argentina that helped
to be founded in 1950, they testify their interdisciplinary interest.
From that moment, he/she says, I have made a total of nineteen movies
like director. The cinema is a form of modern opera, and I compose
at the same visual time and musically". (Kagel also composed music
for one of the works teachers of the surrealist silent cinema: Le
chieii atidalon (The Andalusian dog), of Luis Buñuel and Salvador
Dalí.)

After
their plans shipwrecked to found a study of electronic music,
it assumed director's position in the opera of camera of the
Teatro Colón. Parallelly he/she wrote for the magazine New
Vision on it photographs and cinema. Pierre Boulez, during
a tour for Buenos Aires, examined its scores and he/she suggested
him that travels to Europe. With a scholarship the German
government's DAAD, Kagel arrived in 1957 to Colony, then a
center neuralgic of the New Music, where it continues living.
And so much he/she was integrated in the German musical life
that John Cage, the other magician of the paradoxes, ended
up saying: "The best European musician that I know
is an Argentinean, Mauricio Kagel." (*)
